6 POLICEMEN RELIEVED

ANGELES CITY -- Six policemen, including an inspector, were relieved from the city police here and transferred to the Nueva Ecija Provincial Police Office after they were involved in an alleged extortion of some P146,000 from a retired US serviceman.

Senior Superintendent Sidney Villaflor, acting city police director said the victim, Angelito Jose, a retired US Air Force personnel, was arrested last April 1 for illegal drugs.

Villaflor said Jose later admitted that he gave $2,000 to Inspector Michael Rey Bernardo, PO3 Joseph Garcia, PO1 Jonathan Labao and PO1 Rafael Tagle, who accompanied him to a bank to withdraw the money a few days after his arrest.

On the night of the same day, two sisters of Jose allegedly gave another P50,000 to the policemen.

The four lawmen, along with SPO2 Dionisio Roque Jr. and SPO2 Gerry Fabia, who were suspected to be also involved in the extortion, were relieved and reassigned to Nueva Ecija by Police Regional Office 3 director Chief Supt. Rudy Lacadin.
