Binay: Negative Stories Deterring Investors

Negative news being magnified by the local media is driving away foreign investors, according to Vice President Jejomar C. Binay.

Binay said while the Aquino government is addressing two factors that are deterrent to foreign investments, "graft and corruption and uncertainty of economic policies," Philippine media's focus on reporting crime incidents in the country is hurting the country's image abroad.

The Vice President noted that in other countries, crime incidents are reported in the inner pages of a newspaper. In the Philippines, he said, crime stories land in the front page and gets big treatment in television newscasts.

“The news is all about criminal cases—murder, ambush cases etc. I don't know how far we can appeal to the media, but in other countries, crime stories are reported but are placed in the inner pages. In our country, crime stories get big treatment on TV. They even land on the front. So everybody is terrified," Binay said in Filipino.

This should not be the case, he said, adding that “problem with peace and order is more in the Muslim communities in Mindanao but not in majority of the places in the country.”

Perspective
These stories are the truth about the corruption, violent crimes, scams, fraud, misuse of authority, and violation of human rights that predominantly exist in the Philippines. Shouldn't the truth be told? But, Binay wants to hide these stories to deceive foreigners about the truth.... Another example of the immoral leadership in the Philippines. When the leader such as this exists, setting this example, how else can the others help but to follow this example. Remember, you lead by example... not words.

This is just this writers opinion. True or Not?
